The Gun Case
I really wanted to build something, but there weren't any projects to work on. I always wanted to make a shadow box or display case. So I decided to display Joe's first gun.
Recently my father-in-law, Joe had given my son the first gun he ever owned. The gun itself has no monetary value, but it was the first of what would become an impressive collection of antique firearms.
I routed two different profiles for the door pieces, and cut a dado for the back of the side pieces leaving the back open. I wanted the edges of my felt background to be as clean and flawless as possible, so I decided
to fold the felt over the exposed corner of the 5/8" plywood backboard. This way the edge of the felt wouldn't be seen. This was then glued-n-screwed to a 1/4" plywood piece that fit into the dado I had cut
earlier.
I bought some magnetic catches that where way too big, probably because they were the cheapest. I ended up making little covers for them. Note to self: cheapest is not always the best way to go. I think they look good though.
It was a fun little project.
